Conventional wisdom and research support the critical role of parents as the first line of defense in keeping children healthy and drug-free.
We are proud to be recognized as a leader in prevention advocacy, for our work to increase parent involvement in prevention, and for our work to support the creation of community coalitions.
We provide information, consultation and technical assistance to parents, schools, the faith community, and to public or private agencies or organizations that desire to build prevention capacity through increased parent involvement.
Since 1982, Families in Action, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, has been promoting parent-centered prevention as the most effective strategy for preventing the use of alcohol, tobacco and illegal drugs by children and youth.
In 2002, after twenty years of serving Wilson County, Families in Action expanded its service area to include all of North Carolina. We now work statewide to advocate for prevention, promote parent-centered prevention, and to support the creation of community coalitions.
